Ancient Egypt With Year 3 and 4

Our Visit to Ancient Egypt

We all put on Ancient Egyptian costumes and then looked at the artefacts in the museum.
With the help of ‘Alice' we found out all about what the Egyptians believed and looked at several Egyptian artefacts.

Once we had all put on our Egyptian costumes ‘Alice’ then explained what the Ancient Egyptians believed happened when we die.
The Egyptians would try and preserve the bodies of people by taking out some major organs and then soaking them in salt before wrapping them in cotton and making a ‘mummy’. We made Olivia into a ‘mummy ‘ by wrapping her in bandages. She was very good at laying still for a very long time!!

Finding out facts about Ancient Egypt at the museum.

We looked at the artefacts in the museum to help us find out about life in Ancient Egypt.  They used hieroglyphics to communicate.

Harvest Festival

We ended our 'Autumn Week' with a Harvest Festival.  We said a big thank you to Father God for providing us with all we need.  We also wanted to remember those people in Derby who don't always have enough to eat.  We collected food for Derby City Mission's 'Food Bank'.

Enjoying Autumn

The whole school had lots of fun, working in mixed age 'Family Groups' to take part in various Autumn crafts:

Working as a team to make Scarecrows.

Leaf rubbing.

Leaf printing.

Autumn mosaics, made by ripping up coloured paper into small pieces.

Bread Making With Warburtons

The whole school had a fantastic time when two lovely ladies from Warburtons came in and made bread with the children.
First we had to get our aprons and hats on then listen carefully to the instructions.

Next we knead and stretch the dough.

The children work in Family Groups.  The older children enjoy supporting and helping the younger members of the school.

Now to start shaping.

Some of our results.

A Letter From The Queen

In June the children wrote letters to Queen Elizabeth II to say congratulations on her Diamond Jubilee.  Today a letter arrived from Buckingham Palace addressed to 'All the Children at Emmanuel School':

Take a Seat with Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 have had a very interesting time looking at ‘chairs’

A chair is made for a particular purpose, (deck chairs for sitting in the sun, lounge chair for relaxing, high chairs for babies and toddlers) in the same way Father God has designed us for a particular purpose and has a plan for each of our lives.

First we looked at lots of different chairs then designed and made our own chairs, which proved to be great fun.

We started with the seat.

We even tried to add padding to make them comfortable!!

   Then we added the back.
Olivia had a beautiful back to her chair.

The legs were not easy to attach!

Then we decorated them with paint, felt tip pens and crayons.

Now we have our finished product …..
Would you like to sit down and put your feet up?

Pansies

Year 5 and 6 have been being rather mean to some poor flowers over the last two weeks.  They have recently posted on their blog about it and there is even a video.  Follow this link to check it out.

We're glad to say the the pansies have fully recovered over the weekend and are all back to normal now.
